چکیده

In the framework of the PLAS’STER project, a prototype based on a RF plasma confined inside sterilization pouches for the treatment of medical devices has been developed. In this work, optical emission spectroscopy was used to study the plasma emission from VUV/UV to IR wavelengths range. The results showed the production of strong UV radiation, radicals and atomic species depending on the process parameters.

Surface Decontamination by Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma

Background: Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD), a source of non-thermal plasma, is used in surface decontamination. Objective: To study the effect of DBD plasma treatment, we evaluated the effect of plasma exposure time on inactivation of Bacillus subtilis. Results: Applying the DBD plasma to the culture of B. subtilis caused complete sterilization of the surface without any thermal effects. In...

Inactivation of Gram-Negative Bacteria by Low-Pressure RF Remote Plasma Excited in N2-O2 Mixture and SF6 Gases

The role of low-pressure RF plasma in the inactivation of Escherichia coli O157, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, and Enterobacter sakazakii using N2-O2 and SF6 gases was assessed. 1×109 colony-forming units (CFUs) of each bacterial isolate were placed on three polymer foils. The effects of pressure, power, distance from the source, and exposure time to plasma gases were optimized. The...

Dense CO2: An Innovative Method for Sterilization of Venous Catheters at Low Temperature

Venous catheters are important medical devices which are more and more employed in medical treatment. After use, they are currently not re-used, a practice which is very expensive due to their cost. For this reason it is very interesting to be able to set up a sterilizing technology that permit to re-use them without changing their physical properties and the microbial adhesion. The methods usu...

The sterilization efficacy of reprocessed single use diathermy pencils.

In Brazil, single use diathermy pencils (SUDP) are among the most common reused devices. This study assesses the sterilization efficacy of reprocessing SUDP using two cleansing methods (manual or automated), followed by one of three of the low-temperature sterilization methods: Hydrogen Peroxide Plasma (HPP), Ethylene Oxide (ETO) or Low-Temperature Steam Formaldehyde (LTSF). The sample was comp...
